Welcome to The GOOD 30-Day Challenge (#30DaysofGOOD). Each month, we challenge our community members to do something that will improve the world around us—and our own lives. The challenge for September? To connect with other people. In an effort to help us all rise to the occasion, we're going to assign one small task every day. Each morning, we will post the challenge on GOOD.is and Twitter, along with a testimonial from someone on the GOOD team who's already completed it. We invite you to complete all 30 mini-challenges with us! Today, we challenge you to:
Get coffee with a co-worker.
When Manasa joined GOOD a couple of weeks ago, she sent out a company-wide email asking for apartment-hunting tips. I was looking for a new place, too, so we swapped advice virtually until we had both landed places. Then we decided to take it to the next level.

After placing names to faces—I had never actually seen Manasa before—we set out for iced coffees, then discussed the absurdity of Los Angeles neighborhood branding, the superiority of Padmapper, and the things that brought us to GOOD. Manasa told me about her experience teaching in India post-college and I disclosed my professional obsession with the porn industry. Along the way, we even squeezed some professional benefit out of the trip—Manasa graciously served as my ambassador to the Other Side of the GOOD offices, and helped demystify what GOOD/Corps is up to a few desks away. I filled her in on what goes on in GOOD’s editorial meetings and discussed our secret formula for determining the day’s editorial output.
The office is growing so fast, I don’t always get a chance to chat with everyone on our team (or even, apparently, ever see them). I spend most of my days here staring into my screen, communicating with my co-workers in a flutter of emails, chat rooms, and instant messages. Even a 15-minute coffee break can help put things in perspective. And I can always use more caffeine.
Ready, set, go! Good luck completing today's challenge. Share your experience on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook by using the hashtag #30DaysofGOOD, or let us know how it went in the comments section below.
Tomorrow's challenge: Buy something under $5 for a friend.
