The socialist Vermont senator has been speaking for almost five hours now.
UPDATE: The speech is now over, after eight and half hours. Here's the Times's take.
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has been speaking now for almost five hours, taking up all the debate time on the new tax deal. Sanders is a Socialist and thinks that this new tax plan unfairly benefits the rich. You can hear him going on below. He's making some excellent points about the problems with the distribution of wealth in this country.
Most of the time in the Senate, Senators don't actually have to hold the floor to block a vote. But back in the day, Senators actually had to talk non-stop to prevent a vote. That is what Sanders is doing now. The vote itself is not until Monday, so its unclear if Sanders is actually intending to prevent a vote.
