Brilliant: Telekom Austria Converts Phone Booths into Charging Stations
What are we going to do with all these old phone booths? Our cities are full of them, and we certainly don't need them anymore. And by the way, how are we going to build a network of charging stations for all these electric cars we're expecting?
Yes, in Vienna, Telekom Austria just retrofitted a phone booth to work as an electric vehicle charging station. The company hopes to convert a total of 30 booths by the end of 2010. And with 13,500 booths throughout the nation, this project, if this works well, could provide a brilliantly efficient way to repurpose an obsolete infrastructure and solve one of the most vexing problems facing electric vehicles. Now you can look forward to long distance charges from the phone company. (Apologies.)
