No need to buy a new charger with each phone. A whole household could share just one charger. And they're moving to a more energy efficient standard. This will dramatically reduce the amount of plastic crap created and the amount of energy wasted.The cellphone manufacturers are saying the decision was inspired by a new sense of environmental responsibility. It's not clear that's true:"What seems to have tipped the balance in favour of standardisation has been the growing dominance and falling cost of the micro-USB connection for data transfers, rather than a sudden outbreak of customer care."Good news nonetheless. Now they just need to get cracking on that heirloom cell phone.
