Alan Turing is regarded by many as the father of computer science. His "Turing machine" is a simple hypothetical contraption that can, in theory, do anything any computer can do. This LEGO Turing machine, built by Jeroen van den Bos and Davy Landman, honors Turing's memory on the centenary of his birth and provides a simple, block-by-block model of one of his most groundbreaking ideas. Despite Turing’s genius (and the fact that he helped Britain crack German codes during World War II), he was prosecuted by the British government for his homosexuality. He's worth remembering for many reasons.
