Quality of Living

The huge consulting conglomerate Mercer just released its annual list of the cities with the best quality of living. Vienna, Austria, tops the list. Switzerland, meanwhile, has three cities in the top 10. So does Germany. And the highest ranked city in America? Honolulu. (San Francisco is a close second.)The methodology, to the extent that Mercer explains it, looks pretty solid. Although they define "quality of living" as "the degree to which expatriates enjoy the potential standard of living in the host location," it looks like a comprehensive set of criteria. The rankings take into account everything from public services to media freedom to the presence (or absence) of "troublesome and destructive animals and insects."I'm a little surprised there aren't more Scandinavian countries in the top ten, though.See the whole list here.Photo from flickr user reivax (cc).
