As this wonderful animated video from NPR explains, scores of insects regularly take flight in the summer. At any given moment in a 0.6 mile area, there are 3 billion insects flying overhead.
A few friends of mine routinely debate the feasibility of flying cars, and what a flying car infrastructure might look like. I can't tell whether there are lessons to be learned here, but I'm certain of one thing: flying cars would kill a lot of bugs.
