Chicago got yet another great piece of public art today. This one is a 30-foot fiberglass eyeball by Tony Tasset. The Chicago Tribune has a making-of video.

Tasset seems wonderfully unpretentious (on the point of the sculpture: "it's meant to be funny and weird"), and the eye is packed with symbolic potential (Does it represent Big Brother? Or maybe a window to Chicago's soul?). The piece will be on display from today through October 31. Here's to spherical art in the public sphere.
