It's the Sunswift IVy, designed by students at the University of New South Wales. Its design—it looks like a big solar panel with wheels—suggests its purpose: to beat the speed record for a sun-powered car. On Friday morning in Australia it did just that, hitting a blistering top speed of—brace yourself—54.6 miles per hour.
So it's not as fast as a Yugo, but still, it runs on just 1,200 watts, "the same power it takes to run a toaster."
