It's well known that freelancers, students, and the like will take their laptops to coffee shops to work. The surrounding creative energy has been proven to boost productivity for creative work, and help some people focus.
Now, a new website called Coffitivity is flipping the switch, bringing the buzzing sounds of a cafe to you, wherever you are, the New York Times reported Friday.
The idea is that it's hard to be creative in total quiet, but too much noise is distracting. The vibe of a coffee shop hits the sweet spot, so Coffitivity has recreated it. "Enough noise to work," the tagline goes.
Cofounder Ace Callwood told the Times that coffee shops "had just the right mix of everything. You could get the coffee machine, and you had people talking and eating. It has two levels, and we got the vibe upstairs and downstairs.”
