Apparently there's an island made of plastic bags floating in the Pacific Ocean between San Francisco and Hawaii. It's not hard to believe; we use 60,000 of them every five seconds. For a second we thought "Oh, they're all in one place. Well that'll make them easy to clean up." Then we read that the island is twice the size of Texas.
It's unbelievable that you can't find a picture of this. Greenpeace does, however, have an animation that shows how currents end up concentrating ocean trash in one place.
So for the zillionth time: eschew plastic for something reusable.
