Four Ways to Get Behind the #GivingTuesday Movement

#GivingTuesday encourages people to talk with their families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues about the importance of giving and to find new and creative ways to raise funds and help out in their communities.

Hot on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is #GivingTuesday, the opening day of the giving season. After two days of getting deals, this is a day for giving back. #GivingTuesday encourages people to talk with their families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues about the importance of giving and to find new and creative ways to raise funds and help out in their communities.

The second annual #GivingTuesday takes place on Tuesday December 3. And we need your help. Here are four easy ways you can get involved.

1. Share an unselfie

Selfie was named the word of the year but we want to make “unselfie” the word of the season. An unselfie is a show of support for #GivingTuesday. Just take a selfie with a caption (or have it on a card in the picture) explaining how or why you and/or your friends are giving this year. Use the hashtags #unselfie and #GivingTuesday and post it to Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter to share it.

2. Take the #GivingTuesday Pledge

Make a pledge on #GivingTuesday to give a little more—pledge to donate five to ten percent more annually to your favorite nonprofit or pledge to volunteer more over the next year and share it out over your social networks.

3. Reach out to your favorite nonprofit

#GivingTuesday has more than 6,500 partners (and growing!) in all 50 U.S. states. Reach out to your favorite nonprofit to see how you can help support them this #GivingTuesday.

4. Be a Social Media Ambassador

Help spread the word about #GivingTuesday with your family, friends and colleagues across your social network. Learn from like-minded peers, gain access to exclusive content, submit your own ideas, and share those exciting messages with your networks. We even developed a toolkit to help get you started. Just click here to sign up.

Every action counts, every dollar matters, and when these things are coming together, they make a powerful statement about who we are.

#GivingTuesday depends on the collective efforts of a unique group of partners and their participation—you are the most important part of making this movement a reality. With your help, one day #GivingTuesday may be as well known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
