“I think it’s great.”

A year ago, Disney announced its plans to produce a sequel to 2013’s mega hit, Frozen. The film was a welcome change to the princess genre because the story centered around sisterly love instead of the traditional princess-saved-by-a-prince plot line. Now, Disney fans have asked the animation giant to take their progressive story a step further by giving its heroine, Elsa, a girlfriend in the upcoming sequel through #GiveElsaAGirlfriend.
But there’s been a conservative Christian backlash to the movement to find Elsa a lady friend. Christian groups launched #CharmingPrinceForElsa and have created an an online petition saying, “Last week, the LGBT lobby and liberal Hollywood stood together demanding Disney create Queen Elsa’s character into a Lesbian. If fact, they claim, based off of her views in Frozen, she is already a lesbian and now only needs a girlfriend.”
One person that’s totally fine with Elsa finding lesbian love is the actress who plays her in the film, Idina Menzel. Recently, she told interviewer Cameron Mathison, “I think it's great that she’s stirring it up,’ Menzel said. “Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out. No matter what, [Elsa] changed my life.” Although no one knows who Elsa will fall for in Frozen 2, what we do know is that Disney will eventually have to break the ice by having an openly LGBT character in one of its films. The only question is when will they “Let it Go” and finally do it?
