Over the weekend, Walter J. Husak's collection of 301 rare pennies yielded $10.7 million from bidders at an auction in Long Beach, Calif. Featuring several early iterations of the American copper coin, the collection showcased one "large cent" (they used to be the size of quarters) minted for two weeks in 1793 only to be abandoned because Congress thought Lady Liberty looked frightened. Suffice to say, the auction was the largest ever for a stock of uncommon cents.
