The amount of money in the stimulus package for high-speed rail, $8 billion, turned out to be much higher than in previous draft versions of the bill. Good news.
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood has a lot of freedom in deciding how that money gets spent, but it's reasonable to think the Federal Railroad Administration’s officially designated high-speed rail corridors would be first in line. Here they are.
I would use the Bay Area-Sacramento-Los Angeles line all the time if it existed. Would these routes be useful to you?
