Jes Howen McBride is inextricably drawn to the built environment, human behavior, and figuring out how to improve upon the status quo. Urban planning was an obvious career choice. She has dabbled in bike advocacy, transportation planning, academic research, and city planning. A California native, she received her Masters in Urban and Regional Planning at UCLA but first developed an obsession with cities while living in Seattle and New York; she misses them both. She currently lives in Los Angeles and discovers something new about it every day. Her luckiest breaks/greatest achievements include marrying Josh McBride, writing a song released by Sub Pop, and riding a bike across the United States. Among her literary crushes are Wendell Berry, Charles Dickens, Kurt Vonnegut, and Donna Tartt.
